Monteverdi The Maestro
Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at 7:30 p.m.

We begin our 21st season with the profound sounds of Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643). His music written for church, court, and theater has captivated audiences for centuries, and he virtually pioneered Italian opera. Listen as the Chorale performs a variety of his choral music, from sacred pieces composed during his reign as maestro di cappella at St. Mark’s in Venice, to selections highlighting his mastery of madrigals. Skilled string musicians will accompany the Chorale for this sampling of the revolutionary stylings of maestro Monteverdi.
